AUCKLAND v WANGANUI.

(press association telegram.)

WANGANUI, August 24. % At the match, Auckland v Wanganui, Blayed8 layed to-day, there was a large attendance. in the performance of the visitors, it was generally considered that the local representatives would have no chance, but results proved otherwise. The game was a clinker throughout, play being fast and brilliant. The first spell ended without a score, and the second bid fair to do the same, but in the last two minutes, amid intense excitement, Absolum took the ball from Braund and darted over on the very corner of the goal line. Murray did not increase the score. On play resuming Wanganui rushed the ball into their opponent's twenty-five when a free kick was awarded them. Tilly took the shot at goal, but the ball missed just as the whistle sounded time, thus leaving the Northerners victorious by three points to nothing.
