CHAMBER OF MANUFACTURES. Sydney, August 24. At the annual meeting of the Chamber of Manufactures, the report stated that the removal of Customa duties had resulted in decreased employment in a considerable number ol industries. Over 1800 less hands were employed in the manufactories than in the previous year, and it was also causing boys to be largely employed in the place of men. The Chairman held that under the present conditions it was almost impossible to develop the industries of tho colony. FEVER HOSPITAL FUND. Melbourne, August 24. The Queen's Memorial Fever Hospital fund has reached £15,500. BIMETALLISM. Adelaide, August 24. With, the exception of West Australia, all the colonies have replied favouring the suggestion of the Colonial Treasurer that the Agent-General of each colony should be asked to represent to Mr Goschen that Australia is deeply interested in bimetallismTil c Treasurer's suggestion was tha outcome of Mr Goschen's reply to tha American envoys to the proposed international Bimetallic Conference. THE CYANIDE PATENT. Perth, August 24. There is much dissatisfaction itt mining circles at the Government allowing the Mc&rthur-Forrest syndicate to amend its patent, giving il the sole right to work the solution of cyanide. The Chambec of Mines has resolved to take immediate steps to suppress the monopoly. It points out to the Government that the patent has been overruled in other countries, and considers that it should be treated as a national matter asd defended by the country.
