FEDERAL ELECTIONS.
Press Association—By Teletfraph—Copyright. Sydney, March 6. At the Federal elections 148,000 votes were cast out of 264,000 on the roll. Mr Barton headed the poll with 104,468, the Premier being next with 89,861, while Mr Wise, the tenth man, scored 56,760.
Melbourne, March 6.
Sir George Turner headed the Federal poll with 83,690 voces, while the'tenth man polled 44,565.
Adelaide, March 7.
A peculiar hitch has arisen in the Federal elections. It has been discovered that the returns from a small out of the way polling place in the far north cannot reach Adelaide till five days after the date of the meeting of the Convention. There is not time to call a special session of Parliament to deal with the matter, and, unless arrangements are made to ignore the return or otherwise overcome the difficulty, the Convention will have to be postponed. The Cabinet are considering the matter.
The following are the first nine Federal candidates :—The Premier, Messrs Cockburn, Gordon, Baker, Symons, Glynn, Charleston, Solomon, and Howe. The last two may have to give way to Mr O'Loghlin, the Attorney-General, and Mr McPherson, the leader of the Labour party, when the final returns come in. At present Mr Charleston is the only Labour member returned. Miss Spence, the lady candidate, is very low down on the list.
