THE HARBOUR BOARD WEIGHTS.
TO THE EDITOR OF TUX PRESS. Sir, —With reference to Mr Mclntyre's letter to the Lyttelton Harbour Board With regard to my wheat, he says no such difference as 392 net weight- existed between any two trucks. Probably this may be so, but according to a copy of the weights furnished by the Farmers' Co-op the net weight of the first was 6 tons 9cwt 2qr, and the other 6 tons 6cwt. I shall leave the public to make the difference up in lbs, and if the weight is not correct it's not my affair, but shall leave Mr Mclntyre to settle with the Co .pp. Mr Mclntyre says that I expressed myself satisfied with the weighing, but it only related to twenty sacks weighed in my presence. Shortly after delivering the wheat I received notice that there was a considerable deficiency in the weight, which I disputed and declined to allow in settlement. It was then arranged to take the average weight of twenty sacks, for which purpose I went to Port to see it weighed, and as it made a difference of 5221b net weight on the whole it's no wonder that I was satisfied. My statements in your issue of the Ist inst. are absolutely correct, and can be verified if required. I only received a copy of the weights on Wednesday last, and immediately challenged them, as it would take some strong proof to convince mc that there was a difference of more than a few lbs between the two trucks when leaving Dunsandel; and the most peculiar part of the affair is that one truck was the heaviest out of ten, and the other the lightest by 2801b. If the figures above quoted are not correct I shall leave it to Mr Mclntyre to correct them, and shall allow the public to form their own conclusion as to whether my statements are correct or otherwise.—Yours, Ac.,
J. T. Wright.
