AMURI SHEEP FAIR.

The annual Amuri sheep fair yesterday heads the list of sales held at Culverden for the past ten years. The entry of sheep was over 70,000, bat many of the lots were sold by sample drafts placed in the pens. There was a large attendance of the public, not only from the Amuri County bnt the special train from Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Rangiora, and Amberley was well patronised. Arrived at Culverden the visitors found the hotel overtaxed to satisfy everyone. No time was lost in commencing the sales, the auctioneers getting off the business in good time. It was seen that the sheep had benefited by the recent rains, and the surrounding country was looking very well, and contains a fine supply of fresh grass. Prices were better than they have been at this sale for some time, and only one or two small lota failed to meet with purchaser-. The best prices were realised for breeding ewes and there was a hardening tone in the market. It was the best sale of the pa9t twelve months, and for crossbred.
