Press Association—By Telegraph -Copvrigh. SLAVERY IN THE NEW HEBRIDES. London, March 8. Mr Chamberlain stated, in reply to a question that the Government was unaware of the existence of slavery in the New Hebrides. When it was proved, the Government would take immediate action for suppressing the practice. MISS ADA WARD. Miss Ada Ward, the well-known actress, has joined the Salvation Army. In an interview she stated that on the 6th of January something touched her, and she looked up and saw the figure of Our Lord distinctly. She then went to the penitent form, and will work with the Army. DISASTROUS GALE. March 4. A great gale in the Southern counties of England caused serious damage and many shipwrecks. Mails were delayed.

A burglar robbed the North Eastern Bank at Sunderland of £6000.
IMPRISONED FOR LIFE.

Yielding to the pressure of the Embassies, it has been decided to imprison Mazhar Bey for life.
ALIENS BILL.
Washington, March 8. President Cleveland has vetoed the Aliens Immigration Bill.

The House passed the Immigrants Restriction Bill by 193 votes to 87 over the veto.
MONETARY CONFERENCE.
President Cleveland signed the International Monetary Conference Bill.
THE NEW PRESIDENT.
Mr Smalley states that Major M'Kinley's inaugural address will not be Jingoistic, and will strongly favour general arbitration.
THE M'KINLEY TARIFF.
Washington, March 4.
The Republican Committee of Ways and Means of the House restored the M'Kinley rates of 1890, so far as coal and coke are concerned.
THE NOTORIOUS BUTLER.
San Francisco, March 3.
The owner of a phonograph is suing Butler for a refund of a hundred dollars far phonographing poetry, which was afterwards proved was not an original composition of Butler's.
