MISS BARRATT'S SCHOOL, ASHBURTON.
The annual distribution of prizes at Miss Barratt's School, Ashburton, took place on Thursday afternoon. The Rev. T. A. Hamilton presided, and paid a very high compliment to Miss Barratt and her assistants, and warmly congratulated the pupils on their progress. Mrs Hamilton, who had examined the sewing, expressed herself highly pleased with the general excellence of the work. The pupils gave an enjoyable programme of music and recitations, after which the prizes were distributed as follows:— Class I.—English—lla Paul (dux), Annie Ferrinian 2, Emily White 3. Class ll.—English—Henrietta Denshire 1, Dora Bland 2, Evelyn Hanmer 3; diligence —Gascoigne Greenwood. Class lll.—English—Eric Greenwood l f Mina Reid 2, Mary White 3. Geography — Kathleen Denshire 1. Writing — Becky Home. Class IV.—English—Katie Smith 1, Zoe Ferrinian 2, O. Digby 3. Class IV. (Lower Division)— English White 1, Beatrice Greenwood 2. Class V. — English—Alice Willis and Elsie Fletcher equal, J. Digby 3, M. Digby 4. Class VI. —English—Nellie 'Bruce 1, Mabel Mullaney 2, Dolly Home _. ' Sewing—Class I—Annie Ferriman 1, Ila Paul special prize. Class ll,—DonBland 1. Class lll.—Becky Home 1, Nina Reid 2. Class IV.—Katie Smith I. Class V.—Elsie Fletcher 1. Special prize for writing, given by Mrs Home—Henrietta Denshire.
