MIDLAND CANTERBURY C.C.
The tweuly-first annual meeting of this Club was hold at the Royal Hotel on Saturday night. Mr \V. ft. Wynn-Williams, the President, occupied tlie chair, and there was a good attendance. The Committee, in their annual report, congratulated the members on tho fuct that the high standard of the previous season's cricket had he«m maintained, the first eleven having won the Senior Cup, the second eleven being numers-up for the Juuior Cup, while the third eleven were close up for the President's Cup. The success of the senior team was due to ji large extent to the excellent bowling of Pearce, who was ably assisted by i l>. Reese and H. Do Maus. The principal per- ' fornwnees of the first-named were ten wickets for 29 runs, four for 10, five for 22, five for 12, ami live for 12 (including four wickets with consecutive balls); and lie was deservedly top of the bowliug averages in Canterbury with an average of 8 runs per wicket. In batting, DeMaus, T. W. Reese, C. W. Garrard and Forsyth all averaged over 20 runs per iunings. Thanks principally to his score of 80, against the Wellington Midland, Garrard headed the batting averages with 40.5 per innings, and DeMaus, with 39.5 per innings, was close up. Ths annual match against the Wellington Midland was played in Christchurch, and the visitors were easily beaten; but neither side was properly represented. The Club was represented in interproviaeial matches by Messrs DeMaus, Lawrence, Pearce, D. Reese, T. W. Reese, Macfarlane and Stephenson, and Peavce and DeMaus were chosen to play iv the match New Zealand v New South Wales. In theJuniorCup competition White, with an average of 34.6 per innings, was the only man to average over 20 per innings, and in bowling Barry and Stephenson did best. In the President's Cup competition Barge headed the batting and Manson and D. Ryan the bowling. During the season the lady friends of the Club provided afternoon tea, and the thanks of the members are due to them for their kindness. The total receipts were £89 8s 8d and the expenditure £87 9s 4d, leaving a balance of £1 19s 4d. Owing to several members failing to meet their engagements the liabilities of the Club were heavier than usual, being £37 8s 7d. and the assets £87 15s. In order to wipe out the deficit it was suggested that a concert should be held during the visit of the Australians to Christchurch, and that the patronage of the New Zealand Cricket Council be secured for the occasion. The thanks of the Club were again due to the honorary officers for their generous assistance.
The report and balance-sheet wore adopted.
