Further papers relating to the Ocean Mail Services were laid on the table to-day. In the correspondence complaint is several times made of the slowness of the Monowai, and of her being unable to keep the time on the line between Auckland and San Francisco. Mr Collins wants to know if the Government will consider the advisability of issuing certificates of registration of births of a similar character, and at the same cost, as those issued in the Old Country. Mr G. W. Russell is to move—"That there be laid before this House a return showing the amount spent in each provincial district from loan moneys in each year, since 1876, on roads, bridges, railways, school buildings, telegraph extension, water race_s, and other objects coming under the general heading of ' Expenditure of public works,' and to include money spent on land improvement under the provisions of the Land Improvement Act." Mr Houston willmove—' 'That there be laid before thi3 House a return, showing all moneys spent in the provincial district of Canterbury on railways, roads, and bridges, out of loan money since the initiation of the public works policy."
