BIENNIAL DEMONSTRATION.
The demonstration was resumed at 9 a.m. at Lancaster Park yesterday, when the weather was delightful. The work of the judges, competitors, and others lasted till a quarter to seven in the evening, when there were left two events —two men bicycle and two men coupling—to complete, and two— hose, hydrant and union for five men, and 250 yds race—not commenced. The flat race will be taken at 7.30 a.m. to-day aud the unfinished events will be taken up at 9 a.m. During the day the Suumore Band con* tribated music, ana an exhibition was given of the work of the chemical engine Be I can a, which was spick and span in fresh paint and polish, and presented an attractive picture to the firemen. Iv the course of tbe demonstration some points for cousideration cropped up requiring the attention of the judges. A meeting was held last night but the decisions of the judges are not to be made public until the completion of the demonstration, a final meeting of the judges takiog place directly after Che last event. Manual Enginb Competition foe Five Mcn —Five men, each dressed in shirt and trousers to be lying down in bunk on platform 14fc above ground. At signal from starter, to get up and dress, putting on tunic, of which four buttons must be fastened, boots, helmet, belt and spanner, end of belt to be in keeper. Descend down pole. Harness two horses, pub in pole in engiue, attach horses to engiue, drive about 570 yds to tank, take out horses, unship uwiugle trees, connect and pay out two lengtus of web canvas hose 50ft each from near side, of engine, fix branch, connect two lengths of suction hose to engine, turn over, secure and unlock levers, lock fore carriage, and pump from a tank filled with water, and with water strike disc 3fc in diameter fixed about 10ft from ground. At starting, suction hose to be in pockets at each side of engiue, lids closed, all caps on, delivery hose to be made up in two coils, strapped, and paced in body of engine, branch to be strapped on horn in front of engine. When work is done men to hold up arms over head till dismissed by judges. Horses to be standing on eacn side of engine. Harness to consist ot bridle, collar (names, traces, and breeching combined). Reins to be attached to engine. Horses and harness will be provided by tbe Committee, and shall not be used for practice by any Brigade till the day of competition. A man will be provided to take charge of horses when released from engine. Prizes, .£2O, £10, and £5. Hose Keel Flat Competition jtor Fiv_ Men—Five men to run 10yds, pick up reel, run 100 yds with reel to plug, fix hydrant/, run out 100 ft of hose, fix branch, throw Witer over a rope stretched at the height of 10ft from the ground, then fix union; and then run out 50ft of hose from each delivery of union (union to be capped on one delivery); fix branches aud show water over a rope as before. Reel to carry 250 ft of hose, hydrant, branches and union (|in nozzles). The hose to be wet to commence with. Both lines from union to run in same direction, and not to be crossed. Rungs of ladder to be ten inch rise, to be furnished by the Committee; the same ladder for all brigades, and such ladder nob to be used until the day of competition. Any branchman allowing the hose to fall from platform or ladder, will cause hiß team to be disqualified. Branch ot hose nob to be fastened to the body in any way. Hose nob to be taken off reel until passing flag twenty yards from plug. Time—From start to water striking disc.
