THE BANQUET.
The banquet at the Art Gallery last night was a tilting conclusion to the festivities which the Entertainment Committee has been able to offer to the visiting firemen during the week. The chair was occupied by his Worship the Mayor, and there were over three hundred present. Mt Freeman catered most successfully, everything being excellent, and the whole of the arrangements went off without a hitch The toast list included the following :—" United Fire Brigades' Association," proposed by Mr C. Louisaon, responded to by Secretary Bellringer, Presidenb, and Secretary Robbius, ex-President; ** The Visitors," proposed by Mr G. R. Hart, rcspouded to by Vice-Pre-sident Martin, Secretarj Gilberd aud exPresident Robbins; *' Tne Demonstration Committee," proposed by Captain Leach, responded to by his Worship the Mayor ; " Tii« Officials of the Competition," proposed by Treasurer Martin, responded to by Messrs J. R. Triggs, R C. Bishop and J. C. Cu3ack ; "The Ghriatchursh Fire Brigade," proposed by Captain Stewart, responded to by Superintendent E. Smith ; "Tbe Entertainment: Committee," proposed by Secretary Bellinger, responded to by Mr G. R. Hart; "The Press;" " The Ladies ;" "The Mayor and CHty Council;" "The honorary medical officer of the Christchurch Fire Brigade," responded to by Dr. Prins, with a quarter of a century record; "The Hon. Secretary, Fireman McMillan;" and "The Caterer," proposed by Mr F. Arenas. During the evening some excellent -ongs were given by Messrs Millar, Lovell, Woodnouse, Edgar, Miller, and others, and a very enjoyable time was spent.
This morning at 8.20 the special excursion to the Kaiapoi Mills will be run.
