ARRIVAL OF THE FRENCH CORVETTE OF WAR SCORFF.

Still another warship arrived "in Port yesterday, making tbe seveuth to visit Lyttelton during the last three weeks... The new arrival is the French corvette of war Scorff, from Hobart via Port Chalmers. She was taken to the buoys near the Gladstone Pier, and is expected to remain here till Monday next, when she leaves for Wellington and Auckland, going ou to Noumea. After a short stay at tho islands she returns to France to pay out of commission. The Scorff is a wooden vessel built in 1882 at L'Orieht. Her dimensions are t—Length 210fb, beam 34ft 6in, depth of hold 14ft 9in, and: her tonnage 1500, tons. Her armament consists of four s£in three.ton guns and four machine guns. The Scorff is principally, a sailing craft, her engines which register up to 800 h.p. only, being auxiliary. She carries 125 men, and is in charge of Captain Lecomte, who brings the following officers:; —Lieutenantß Doublet, Coomas, Dumanoir, Flambard aud Ficot; Sub-Lieutenants Dupond, D' Hestreux, Clovel, Destreman, Dukero, Dv Brossay; Paymaster Loufctl. Dr. Rougien, who is her surgeon, is from the Pasteur Institute, Sydney. The Scorff comes into port in superb order. The welcome given to her I officers and crew will, no donbt, be all the I more hearty for the good feeling at present existing between England and France. Yesterday afternoon Mr J. Stinson, Mayor of Lyttelton, and Cr. Owen paid a visit to the ship, and, on behalf of the Borough Council, cordially welcomed Captain Lecomte and his officers to Lyttelton. The Hon. E. \V. Parker, the French Consul at Christchurch, also went down to Port yesterday, and paid a visit to the •hip.
