Captain Fairchild leaves Wellington by the Rimutaka on the 17th inst., to bring out the new Government steamer. On Friday night, when off Cape Farewell lighthouse, the Orowaiti narrowly escaped running down a brigautine, which was sailing without lights. The Union Steamship Company has let a contract for the erection^of a substantial two-Btoried brick building to replace the present workshops and repainng-yard of the Company in Wellington.
