CRICKET IN WELLINGTON.
(press association telegram. WELLINGTON, February 2. The senior cricket matches resulted in -putting up a record, two centuries being knocked up in one day. In the MidlaudRivals match tbe former, with three wickets down for 121 against the Rivals' 120, resumed their innings, and at the call of time the score was increased to 428 for the loss of seven wickets. Williams played a fine innings for 151 and S. Tucker, not ont, for 85. Tbe Midlands were at the wickets all the afternoon. In the Phoenix v Wellington match the former finished their first innings with a lead of 18 runs. In the second innings, however, Wellington made a much better stand, and at the close of the day had lost six wickete for 254, of which Hold.hip, not out, rattled up 131 in good style, though he gave one or two chances, and was, in the opinion of a large number of spectators, fairly caught in the slips, but the nmpire gave hi-ve-diet in iavour of the .ataman. Levere put together 66. Williams' innings was characterised by vigorous hitting, one 7 being run. He gave a chance early in bis innings and another at 96. A further century was put np in a junior match, when Topp was not dismissed before he had scored 115. - '
