SELWYN COUNTRY COUNCIL.
The Selwyn County Council met yesterday. Present—Messrs D. McMillan (Chairman), R. Westenra, G. McHaffie, J. Gough, J. Rennie, W. Dunlop, J. G. Murray, and H. W. Peryman. An apology was accepted for the absence ot Mr Boag. On the question of who should clean out water races, the Council or the persons through whose property the races ran, it was decided chat a circular ba sent to waterrace ratepayers for their expression of opinion. The Council considered in Committee a letter from Mr Moreland concerning the fire on his property, and came to the conclusion that it saw no reason to depart from its previous decision. The S prey don Road Board complained that the condition of the Lincoln road had not been improved by the position in which the Christchurch Tramway Company had laid down the rails, and the Council was asked to compel tho Company to make up the road to the level of the rails, &c. It was decided to forward a copy of the letter to the Tramway Company. The Lincoln and Tai Tapu Road Boards asked the Council to erect a traffic bridge over the Halswell, near the schoolhouse at Tai Tapu, to connecc the Akaroa and Drain roads. Consideration was deferred, pending information a3 to cost, &c. f and the assistance likely to be given. Mr T. Quealy wrote that the contractors were making satisfactory progress in cleaning out the river Halswell. It was resolved to forward a final notice to several occupiers and landowners in the various waterruce districts, asking them to pay their rates withiu fourteen days. Mr Chapman reported the completion of the repairs to White's bridge. On the report of the Roads Diversion Committee the Council offered no objection to the Courtenay Road Board closing a by-road at Waireka. The meeting then closed.
