CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, January 15. (Before G. G. Stead and W. Tanner, Esqs., J.P.'s.) Drunkenness, &c.—For this offence John Kelly was fined £1, or in default forty-eighc-hours' imprisonment; Edward Craucher, 10s, or forty-eight hours'; a man, his first offence, 03, or twenty-four hours'; a cabman, \vho Had not'before been convicted and who had been found drunk while in charge of his horse and vehicle, £1, with 5' expenses, or iv default seven days' imprisonment. Margaret Kyder was convicted and handed over to an ciSeer of the Salvation Army, who promised to look after her. Cutting [Grass ox a Reserve.—Hugh Walker was enarged with stealing graiss, valued at Is 6J, from a Municipal reserve. The evideucs was that oa December 31st he was fouud mowing on and removiug tho grass from & patch on Cambridge terrace. Sergeant-Major Ma3on said that people were in the habit of doing this, and as they selected pieces here and there, the appearanco of the ground was spoiled. The present case had been brought to deter others. The defendant pleaded that he was only following the example of others, and was unaware that he was doing wrong. He was fined Is with costs 7s. Houses and Cattle —For allowing a hoi so to wander H. J. Milnes was fined 2s 6 J with costs 9s.—Alfred Parsons, the owner of ten head of cattle found being horded in Fendalton road, was fined 5j with costs 17s.
