INQUEST AT THE HOSPITAL
An inquest was held at the Hospital last evening, touching the death of Williart Donnelly. Mr Baetham was the Coroner, Mr George Duggan foreman of the jury, and Inspector Broham appeared on behalf of the police.
Henry Hankey deposed that he was with deceased about 9 pm. on Saturday, the 28th iuet. Near Edwards Bennett's corner a cab going down Manchester Btreol knocked Donnelly down, and paaeed on, Witness and lsonuelly had had drinks. :
To the jury—The cabman was driving at a gooi pave. Constable Birrett doposod that at 9.10 p.m. on December 28th lie heard of the accident; Ho went to tho scene, and saw Donnelly waa in a cab, in which he • was taken to the Hospital. Witness inquired of people around about tho accident, buO no one socmed to know anything of it. Detective Benjamin stated that fur several days ho had buen making inquiries, and fouud a man named McKay, who was now away. He was iv the street whon a,cabman passing Hulbeit and Son's called to him to " look out." He went an to the pavement, aud the cab proceeded towards Mauoiioelef street. He looked down the Street, and ai the cab passed l the intersection he aav? I man fall as though knocked down by it. Witness knew deceased, who was without c home. , "
Dr. Murray-Aynsley deposed to the admission of tho deceased into the Hospital on December 23th. The man was cu£ferin| from a fracture of the right claviole and « bruise over it. There was a bruiaa on and tho skin taken off tbe chin and the right cheek and temple were elightly • bruiaod. He was uncouecioua when admitted; could not be roused. He never entirely recovered sensibility, and he died ao> one o'clock a.m on Sunday, January sth. Witness made 8 post mortem examination, and found ft frao« ture oq the right side of the akul), and the membranes of the bruin. inflamed. There was also old disease on the left aide oi tb» ' skull. Deceased died from the injuries received on that night accelerated by the old ' disease. ■ . Tbe jury returned a verdrt—" That deceased met his death from injuries re ceived by his being knocked down by I cab, bub there was no evidence to show b* ' whose cab." •
