THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION.
• TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sib, —I was surprised to see in your issue of this morning that tho Council of the National Association had taken upon itsolf to ask Mr C. Lewis to contest the coming election, for Christchurch on behalf of the Association. Mr Lewis may be the best candidate available, but I think it too much to expect that the members cf the Association will accept him as such without being taken into tho confidence of the Council. Other political Associations take ballots of their mom bet a to decide who shall be their chosen candidate, and I prophesy that uuless a similar course is taken in the present case tho result will show that it would have been better for the Association not; to nominate a candidate.
As a aub3oribnr to the Association, I have been hopiug that it would succeed in inducing the Hon. YV. Rolleston to become its candidate.—Yours, &c., Old Identity.
