DISAPPEARANCE OF FISH.

Mention was recontly made (says th. Auckland Herald) of the fact that the Tarawera steamer, when off tho coast of New South Wales, ploughed through immense shoals of fish, seemingly schnapper. Whether related in any way or uot to thi. circumstance, it ia interesting to know that for the past two months achnappor have quite disappeared from the Bay of Islands and the waters of the adjacent coasts. Are we to look on this as indicative of migratory habits in these fiAh, extending to so distant seen.a as the other side of the Tasmap Sea ? Or is there anything in the traditions current in volcanic couutrics that fish disappear from the coasts before earthquakes or violent volcanic eruptions ?
