STEAMER SIGNALS.
Mr W. E Bastings, of Waireka School, suggests in the North G.'anj Times that steamships should adapt the Morse alphabet to their steam whistle signals, so that they could be made to convey information, or ask for it, in darkness or fog. At present a steamer cau make noise enough, but it iR like a screeching baby's, it doe 3 not tell what's the matter with it. Air Bisting. refers to tho recent Fife3hire mishap as a case io point.
