MR REEVES AND THE CHRISTCHURCH SEAT.

A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that the apt.ointm_ut of tha Hon. W. P. Reeves as Agent-General has been confirmed, and he leaves Wellington for London on the 10th inst. The Governor expects to reach Lyttelton on the 15th when he will receive Mr Reeves' resignation for Christchurch city. Tha now writ will follow immediately, and it ia cxp.cted tbat ihe election will taka place early in February. The National Association, at a meeting on Saturday nhjht, requested Mr Charles Lewis to stand'for tbe seat. Mr Lewis has taken time to consider the request. As already mentioned Mr John L. Scott has consented to stand in the Ministerial iutet-est, -tr-d Mr T. E. Taylor on btthilf of the prohibitionists, while Mr R. M. Taylor ia al.o spoken of.
