FIRES.
A Btorp, used also an the Post and Telegraph Office, at View Hill, and occupied by Mr James Pole, was comoletelv destroyed by hre early ou Friday morning. Tho fire started in the portion of the building where the shop was, and nothing whatever of the stock was saved, and very little of the furniture and other articles in thedwlW Ihe building was the property of Mr George 1 laskett, and, with the contents, was insured, but tho loss to both Messrs Plaskett and Pole will be severe.
At twenty minutes to 12 o'clock yesterday the BiigaJe were called out to a hre whicn had occurred in Lichfield street east. A heap of rubbish next to Dr. Elmsii«"'a caught fire and iguited a tree on his proprrty, and theuco made its way to the shingles ou the roof of the house. Some ot these caught fire, but the timely intervention of several passers by extinguished the rlimes and saved the Brigade any t-ouble further than that occasioned by turning out.
