A GREAT DISASTER AVERTED.

The express train to Dunedin on Wednesday did not reach its destination till nearly 1 a.m., instead of 9 p.m., owing to the second engine getting off the rails near the long tunnel at Purakarfui. None of the carriages were derailed. The Timaru Herald understands that there was a narrow escape from a great disaster.
