A RESCUE FROM DROWNING.
Mr J. Y. Daly, the well-known rowing man, performed an act of gallantry at Lyttelton on Wednesday which certaiuly deserves recognition. While standing near the Lyttelton Rawing Club's shed, his attention waa attracted by a man neir the Harbour Board's black shed shouting out that a person was drowning near the Tainui. Mr Daly at once ran along to the shed, jumped into the »ea, and swimming out very fast for about 100 yards, caught hold of a man who was sinking for the third time and held him till boats arrived and picked them up. The rescued person turned out to be a seaman from the «.«. Tainui who had been seized with cramp while bathing. He wa3 brought ashore and, with treatment, quickiy recovered, but had it not been for the timely warning given and the prompt action of Mr Daly, a fatality would doubtless have occurred.
