BOXING DAY, 1895.
♦ The arrangements for the holiday to-day, though not so numerous and varied as on former years, will enable holiday-makers to spend the day in the fashion best suited to their tastes. There are a number of sea trips to Port Levy, Pigeon Bay, &c. The trams to New Brighton and Sumner will no doubt be largely patronised, both seaside resorts being popular with holiday folk. At New Brighton there will be trotting races, and no doubt these will attract a goodly number. At Lancaster Park, under the auspices of the Pioneer Bicycle Club, there will be a race meeting, starting at 1 p.m. The list of competitors includes, besides Kerr and Cartwright, of New Sontb Wales, representatives from Auckland, Gisborne, Wellington, Napier, Timaru, Dnnedin and West Taieri. Our local riders will also be to the fore, and a grand day's sport is anticipated. In the evening at the Opera House a concert, for which a very attractive programme has been prepared, will be given in aid of the Stabbing fund. At the Theatre Royal the Greenwood Family commence their season in "My 'Sweetheart," and a smoke concert will take place under the auspices of the Pioneer Bicycle Club in their rooms to welcome the viaiting cyclists.
