AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.

The second day's sports in connection with the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club took place yesterday afternoon at Lancaster Park. The weather was fine though windy, the tracks were in improved condition, but the attendance was poor. The Eugineers' Band was in attendance and played a number of selections of music which served to enliven the proceedings. The starters in the different events were more numerous than on the first day, and there were some better fioishes, while in one or two instances tbe standards were reduced. The result so far as points are concerned of the two days' meeting is that W. J. Percy wins the champion cup with six poiuts (three firsts), D. Wood and John Moir tie for second place, the former with a first and three seconds, and the latter with two firsts and a second, aud J. F. Grierson comee third with four points (two firsts*. At the conclusion of the sports Mrs J. F. Grierson distributed the cups and other trophies; the champion cup to W. J. Percy, the schools' cup to the Christ's College and Boys' High School teams who having tied hold it jointly, the challenge shield to the Christehurch Football Club's relay team and the Ladies' Bracelet to N. Orr. Appended are the results :— Two-mile Walk, standard, 15min 20sec — F. Wylie, 120 yds, 1; J. W. Stubberfield, 200 yds, 2; A. F. Nicholl, 180 yds, 3. G. W. Smithson, scr, John Lambert, 110 yds, and W. E. Jones, 250 yds, also started. Lambert was disqualified aud Smithson retired on the second last lap. Wylie won by 15yds, and 20yds separated the seoond from the third mau. Time, 15min 29 2-sth sec. High Jump Handicap, standard sft sin— P. J. Brown, scr, sft s_in, 1; D. W. Westenra, sft 2 3-Bth in and 3in handicap, 2; John Moir aud H. H. Pieroy, 4ft Ilia aud 4in handicap each, 5 Quarter fl_i!e Hurdle Handicap (Mr A. E. G. Rhodes' prize), standard 64aec.—H. Wilkinson, 18yds, 1 ; F. Harley, scr, 2 ; J. L. Carl, 25yds, 3. John Moir, scr, also started. Wilkinson won by about 7yds. Carl fell after crossing the last hurdle, and Harley got second place on the tape, his actual time being a second less than the standard. Time for the race, 61 4 sth sec. Seventy-five Yards Flat Handicap. Standard, 8 l-sth sec.—First heat, J. R, Marricer, -Vyds, 1; J. L. -Smith, ;3_yds, 2. H. A. Inwood, 2_yds, and D. W. Westenra, 6yds, also started. Very close finish. Clark, scr, 3. L. Glendining scr, E. S. Leversedge 30yds, P. Menzies 40yds, C. Menzies 45yds, P. Mason 45yds, H. Amos 60yds, C. E. Smith 60yds, J. S. Murphy 60yds, T. Sheeban 65yds, F. W. Johnston 80yds, M. Moir 95yds, and P. O. Sherlock 100 yds also started. The placed men gradually overhauled the leaders, and just after entering the last lap two of them, Clark and Percy, went to the front. Many- competitors had fallen out, and less than half way round the only men remaining in were Clark, Percy, Wood, and Laversedge. Two hundred and fifty yards from home Peroy easily went to the front, and as easily improved his lead, winning by some ten yards,-'finishing comparatively fresh. Wood made a good fight for second place, which he secured by a few inches. Leversedge was some distance away fourth. Time, 4min '38 3-sth-sec, which reduces the Club's standard. Throwing the Hammer, 161b, standard 90tt—P. J. Brown, 88ft 6in and lift handicap, 1; C. Louisson, 71ft sin and Bft handicap, 2. Brown afterwards had three throws, and threw the hammer a distance of9sft7in. One Mile Bicycle Race—J. O. Shorland, 25yds, 1; J. W. Jones, 50yds, 2; H. Thompson, 25yds, 3. C. H. Jones scr, F. G. Simpson scr, and W. F. Waller 45yds also started. The three placed men led the others by several lengths in the last lap and raced for positions. Shorland won by between fifteen and twenty feet. Thompson lost second place after a keen struggle by half a length. Time, 2min 30aec.

120 Yards' Hurdles (Schools)— Christ (A. E. Talbot 1, A. E. Grant 3, G. R. Cottetill 4) 1; Boys' High School (C. Klin-enstein 2. H. Nurse 7; A. T. Ryan 5) 2; Warwick House (R. Brown 6, W. O. Rutherford 8, and last place 9) 5. About half a yard separated the three first competitors from each other. Warwick House only started two. Time, 17sec.

Putting the Stone, 161b (standard 35ft) —■ C. Louisson, 33ft, scr, 1; P. J. Brown, 32ft Bin, scr, 2; John Moir, 29ft lOin and 2ft 6in handicap, 3. F. S. Frankish also competed. Brown in a trial pnt up 33ft sin. Ladies' Bracelet Quarter-mile Fiat Handicap, standard 52 3-oth sec—N. Orr, 17yds, 1 ; S. Majoribanks, 24yds, 2; J. L. Smith, 12yds, 3. J. D. Thompson 2yds, H. A. Inwood 13yds, P. Menzies 14yds, G. F. Dixon 15yds, C. Menzies 16yds, L. Glendiniig 18yds, C. F. Smith 18yds, T. F. Gibson 23yds, J. Lynskey 20yds, C. R. Williams 21' yds, A. E. Talbot 2lyds, A. F. Jones cajkled the leader, Simpson following suit, and the two were close together entering the straight. Jones kept up a good spurt and won by about two lengths, J. W. Jones a close third. Petersen and Co.'s challenge shield and medals)-—Christchurch Football Club (F. S. Harley, J, L. Smith, T, L. Cowlishaw and C. F. Smith), 1; Hardware Athletic Club (W. Bassett, S. K. Bassett, A. ,E. Tucker and G. E. King), 2. The race was keenly contested during each quarter, bub in Harley the Chcistchureh team had a good finisher, who raced Tucker to a standstill and won very easily.
