Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. London, December 11. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,099,000 quarters, and for the Continent 995,000 quarters. The American visible supply of wheat is 87,900,000 bushels. The wool sales closed with the highest prices obtained for the series. 160,000 bales were catalogued, of which 58,000 were sold for Home consumption, 80,000 for the Continent, 14,000 for America, and 20,000 were held over. December 12. Mr Walter Long, President of the Board of Agriculture, replying to a request from the Chambers of Agriculture, said personally he favoured the slaughtering of cattle at the port of disembarking, or aboard ship, in order to prevent the dissemination of disease. The de- j partment, he said, was enquiring into ! the matter, and at present the Government had not come to a decision on the question.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following London cable message, dated 10th December:— Wheat — Market is firm. Spot quotations have advanced 6d per 4961b since last report. (Last quotations were average 24s 6d. longberried 25s 6d.)
