FIRES.
(PBESB ASSOCIATION XKLEGBAMfI.) WELLINGTON, December 1. A fire broke one last night about- 11 o'clock in premisea in a block at southern end of Willis street, whioh contains Barrett's Hotel and other buildiuge. . The fire originated upstairs in LawsonV Auction Mart (formerly Bodley's refreshment room), and about £200 of damage.was done to the building - and goods worth £100 were destroyed, but the furniture in the auction room was saved, though damaged by water. The loss by the goods is estimated at £260, which is partly covered. Mr Plimmer haa a line of £3000 on the buildings, distributed over various lofficea.
TNVKRCARGILL, November 30.
A four-roomed house at the Bluff, occupied by W. Drake, a fisherman, was burned at one o'clock this morning. A child two years old was burnt to death, aod Mrs Drake was so severely lnjared, rescuing the other member* of the family, that she had to be removed to the InveroargUl Hospital.
