The Bank of England returns published to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £88,908,000, the proportion of reserve to liability being 69.82. The hemp market is flat, and nont was sold at yesterday's sales. Sugar, best German beet, 10s, 8d [ Java, 12s 6d, steady. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 46s 10d, flat. Butter, colonial, 100s to 106s. Victorian peas, 275. Silver is quoted at 2s 6d 11-16tb per oz. The Eakaia's shipment of chilled meat is virtually unsaleable.. A few of the carcases brought is Bd. Much of the meat was tainted, and a portion condemned. Measurement freights by sailing vessels to Melbourne and Sydney, will be raised 2s 6d per ton about the middle of December. / November 80.

At the wool sales there was spirited competition, and prices were very firm. Sydney, December 1.

The silver market continues very active, and prices are firm. Block 14 eoicLaV 48 higher than on Friday. All round there is a> considerable rise.
