ASHLEY.

The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held on October 3rd. Presenter MiUton (chairman) aud Messrs Dobson, Martin and Fhilpott. Mr Hodge was granted lcavo of absence. The Surveyor's report was read and considered. It'was resolved tbat works be effected on the Kuku Pass, Ashley Gorge and Leo Pass roads. nl_o to Bullock Hill dram ; that the adjoining lessee be offered the ieaee of Reserves 2226 and 2336; that Mr J. Simpkinson be informed that the ,Board did not think it advisable to close road through R.S. 33221, but would have no objection to him plou>jiijng the road line. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr E. Brock, giving him permislion to erect a gate across tho Makerikeri road under the usual conditions. Correspondence Was read—From Air M. C. Carmichael, enclosing extract from Mr Fisher's letter, relative to the Board's liability to erect a culvert over a roadside drain. It was resolved that the Board could see no reason to alter it" former decision on the matter. From Mrs C. Brady, relative to a lease for Reserve No. 2230. The Clerk was instruced to reply that tenders would be invited for a seven years' lea-oof the reserve. From Mr Duncan, re gorfe on the Okuku Bridge road. Tho Clerk wan instructed to reply that the Board regrets that this has been a long standing trouble to more than the present Board, but the Board would endeavour to have it cleared, and hopes that more success may be achieved than in the past. From Mr Feather, consenting to the road exchange and closure at North Loburn. Instructions were givon to proceed with the surveys, &c. It was resolved that steps be taken to prevent the herding of stock on the roads. Messrs Waller and Upritchard wished the Board to clear gorse, _c., on their respective frontages. The requests were declined. The receipts for the month showed that a large amount of the current year's rates were still outstanding. Tenders for works advertised were opened, and one in each case was accepted. After passing accounts for payment the meeting terminated.
