CHEVIOT COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Cheviot County Couucil met at the Land Offiae, Mackenzie, on October sth. Pr_ent—The Cnairman (Mr J. Gib-on), and Messrs A. VV. Rutherford, W. Macfariane, G. VV. Forbes, P. T. Gill, and B C. Smith. A letter was read from Mr R. Meredith enclosing a letter from the Minister of Lands, stating that tha Chief Surveyor at Christchureh had been requested to arrange with someone to prospect for coal at Cheviot. The valuation list for the county was delivered to the Council by the Valuer. The Clerk was iustructed to apply to his Excellency the Governor askiug him to extend, by Order-in-Council, the tims for presenting the valuation list, and then to proceed iv the matter in accordance with ihe Rating Act, 1894. The Clerk was instructed to send tho half-yearly balance-sheet to the Government Auditor, Christchureh. The following accounts were passed for payment —Stevenson Bros. £1 6*. Stanley £4 sj, Clerk's salary £4 3* 4d. and commission on sale of 160 dog collars £4.
