Ihe Counoil resumed at 7.30. LIQUOR SALE GONTBOL. In Committee on the Liquor Bill, on Captain Morris* amendment to . strike out the words " female aboriginal natives," Mr WILLIAMS hoped Native women would be debarred from obtaining drink. The motion was loat, and the clause was reported with amendments. On Clause 10—" Day of election to be a public half-holiday." Mr RICHARDSON moved to strike out the words making election day from noon a closed day. The amendment was carried by 22, and clause 10, as amended, was retained by 1? to 9. The Chamber divided on clause 12, " when proposals that no lice uses be granted in the colony deemed carried." The clause was lost by 22 to 3. Clause 13, "no liquor to be imported OS manufactured thereafter," was lost by the same number ; as also were the clauses up to 20, all of which relate to national option, and therefore were merely consequential. Mr SBRIMSKI, in order that no further time might be lost, moved that the Chair* man leave the chair. The COLONIAL SECRETARY—That, if carried, would mean killing the Bill. Mr SHRIMSKI—Yes, that is so. The amendment was lost on the voices, and the clause as amended was agreed to. Clause 22, dealing with Bellamy's, as to whether liquor should be sold or not, waa debated. Mr STEVENS moved in the direction of amending it by taking the poll on the last session of a Parliament, one month following the opening day of the session. Mr SHRIMSKI moved to postpone the clause. This was lost on the voices, and Mr Stevens' motion was agreed to by 18 to 6. The subsection making the result of tbe vote upon Bellamy's subject to the result of the district poll was lost hy 19 to 3. The clause as amended was agreed to by 21 to 1. On Clause 23, dealing with Clubs being brought under the provisions of the Bill, Mr PHARAZXTN moted to strike out ths clause. The clause waa struck out by 14 to 8. j Ayes—To bring Clubs under the Bill—• I Reynolds, Bolt, Jennings, Morris, Grace, Montgomery, Buckley. Noes—Bonar. Barnicoat, Swanson, Shrim« ski, Pharazyn, Kelly, Rigg, Taiaroa, Walker, Feldwick, Stevens, McLean, McCullough, Peacock. The Bill was reported, with leave to sib again. The COLONIAL SECRETARY gave notice to move—" That tho Council, oo rising on Friday, sit on Monday night." At 10 p.m. tho Council adjourned till next day.
