THE EARTHQUAKE.
_o— A shock of earthquake was felt at Kaiapoi on Sunday at 6.10 p.m., wtiich lasted twenty seconds, but did no damage. A second tremor of the ground was observed at 8 p. oi. A smart shock of earthquake was felt at i Rangiora on Sunday evening a few minutes I before 6 o'clock. Our Akaroa correspondent telegraphs :— " A severe shock of earthquake was experienced at 6 p.m. ou Sunday, and another at 7.50 p.m., together with a number of Blight tremours. during the night. The direction was from S. W. to N. E. No damage has been reported." Oar Ashburton correspondent telegraphs: —'* A severo shook of earthquake, accompanied by a load rumbling noise, was experienced iv Ashburton at two minute, to six o'clock on Sunday evening. No damage is reported to have been done." Just before 6 p.m. on Sunday a smart shock of earthquake was felt at Rakaia, and the shock was accompanied by a load rumbling. At Darfield a severe shock of earthquake was felt at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The direction was south-west to north-east with a swayin.t- motion. About six o'clock on Sunday evening there was a slight shock of earthquake at Geraldine.
