TAI TAPU AND HALSWELL DRAINAGE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —Will you allow mc a few line 3to let some of our quiet; people in Halswell, Tai Tapu and Greenpark know the way they are suffering from the drainage they have, and the selfish " high and dry " ,v?ho have their large pastures and water races and are sending the water down on us to flood us. They are too mean and frightened for fear they should have to pay towards the co3t of a canal to take the water away ; and we are paying Waimakariri taxes so that they may get water. Some of oar poor swamped ■people are down in the dumps or else too religious to say anything about " High and Dry's " selfish letter. I think the County Council should have a right to stop the water races, or else make them pay a tax to us for taking their water, or peovide us with proper drainage to get rid of the water. A proper canal would be a fortune to some of us.—Yours, &0., E. Bakes. Lincoln, July 29th.
