POLITICAL NOTES.
(Bt Telegiuph.) (FSOJX OCa SPECUL COSBBSPOSDEKX) WELLINGTON', August 1. THE FINANCIAL DEBATE. In the Financial Debate it is probable that either the Hon. Mr Mitchelson or Mr Duthic will lead off ou behalf of the Opposition. LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL. Ii is the intention of th? Government to put ths Local Government Bill through this session. It is now iv type, but awaitiug final revision by the Cabinet. It consolidates aud reper.!s ever tifty existing Acts, and is largely on the Hues indicated by the Premier wiieu on the West Coast, and to the County Cmncil deputation. THE BROCKLEY COAL MINES. I find that 1 omitted to advise, on Tuesday, tho result of Mr Collies' notice of question as the BrocUley and nt'i««- local coalmines. Oa v i■->■■» foradjourameat, Mr Cotltiis pciiittsd out that the Government geologist had already estimated the quantity of coal at some two millions of tone, aud that the Government analyst. Professor Bickerton, had highly eulogised its quality, that splendid specimens of the coal, black, brown and anthracite, were on view in the lobby of the House, which the Minister himself could inspect, aud which Mr Collins felt sure would satisfy him as to the quality. The line would also enable the large stores of marble, copper and manganese, which abounded in tho district, to be profitably utilieed. The tivo aud & half miles of the Jii;e, if constructed, would, through the increased trade induced, transform the thirty miles of railway from Ohristchurch to Gieutunucl *.o a paying instead of us now a uoti-paying line.
