The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show the reserve to be £27,904,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities 68.42. Three months bills are discounted at £ths per cent. Consols, 107-1-. New South Wales 4 per cents, 117|; OSditto, 108. Victorian, IOSf and 10l£ South Australian, 112 and 1001. Queensland, lllf and 104 i. New Zealand, 112£ and Tasmanian per cent 3, 105. West Australian 4 per cents, 119. New Zealand long berried wheat, ex warehouse, steady 265; Australian ditto 26s 4d ; Victorian ditto, quiet, 26s 6d. For an Australian off-coast wheat cargo, sellers ask 20a, buyers offer 6d less. Quotations for New Zealand frozen mutton and hemp are unchanged. Colonial peas average 25s 9d. Butter is firm. The market is virtually firm (? bare) of the Australian article. The wool sales are spirited and prices maintained. Americans are still buying. ". Sngar—German beet, quiet,' , IGs ; Java, steady, 11s. Sydney, July 19. Six thousand eight hundred sheep were sold at the recent sales, inclusive of those privately disposed of, realising £10,400, compared with 8400 sheep last year for £30,000. Over £SOOO went to Tasmania for 2700 sheep, while New South Wales received £3800 for 400 animals.
