SECTARIAN APPOINTMENTS.
The following appeared in the Otago Daily Time* yeaterday:—A story, which is certainly not without its amusing side, is told of a recent appointment of a teacher in this educational district. Among the applicants for a vacancy which occur red in a country district where the bulk of the residents are true blue Presbyterians was a young man who bad had no previous experience under the Otago Education Board, but compensated for hie deficiency in this respect by forwarding certificates of the highest character from the ministers, past and present, ot one of the leading Presbyterian churches in Dunedin. This candidate was, on the strength of tbece credentials, chosen to fill the vacancy, and en bis going to the district he -was duly lodged with an elder of the local kirk. When Sunday came round host and guest started off for church, but they were still some distance from the supposed destination of both of them, when the teacher «aid to bis host, "I think I'll leave you here. ,: " What! are ye no , comin' to ihe kirk ?' asked the elder in surprise. " That is my church," replied the other, pointing to the Boman Catholic Church. Toe teacher had joined the Roman Catholic Church since his attendance at the Pmbyterian Church, bafc
had omitted to forward to the Committee any certificate of character from the priest ! In that district there will bo lese danger in the future than there has been io the past of sectarian appointments being made by the School Committee.
