TARANAKI.
New Plymouth, July 7. On Thursday, July 4th, the Star and Wai mate teams met in the Recreation Grounds; the weather was ahowery and the ground in a very sodden state. Both sides had their best teams in the field, but Wairaate had the hard luck to lose the services of A. Good, towards the end of the first spell, as he received an injury to his side and was unable to resume play. The game resulted in a win for the Stars by 9 points to nothing. Tries for the winners were obtained by A. George, and Ryan, neither being converted, and L> Allen drop-kicked a fine goal from a psnally kick. As Wa.irna!o have now suffered a defeat it leaves them and Cliftou ties for the Senior Cup. The Tukapa First and Kaitake (juniors) met the same day, the former winning by S points to 3. The protest entered by Clifton against Laing one of the Star players, was dismissed by the Union,
