ICMt lib; Dalkeith, 9*t 121b; Molly Maguire, 9at 91b, also startod. Betting: 5 to 1 ag-it -Eiop, 100 to 14 Horizon, 10 to 1 Wild Man From Borneo, 100 to 8 each Cathal, L3ybourae, and Manifesto. At tlie fir ß t attempt the fUe fell, _E*op showing the way from Manifesto, Cathal, Van der Barg, and Fin-ma-Uoul 11., with HorizDU next. These were followed by Father O'Flynn, Riyal Buck, Dalkeith, Caustic, and Sarah Bernhardt, with Lady Pat, Why Not, and Prince Albert in tho rear. Everything proceeded smoothly to Baeher's Brook, when Dalkeith joined _E*.op, and the pair went on from Cathal and Horizon, these being followed into the inner circle of the racecourse the first time by Manifesto, Royal Buck, Lady Pat, Why Not, and Wild Man from Borneo, with Sarah Earnhardt and Father O'Flynn the last two. Soon afterwards Sarah Bernhardt, hopelessly beaten, was pulled up, and thereby missed the fence parallel with the distance, as did Royal Buck, who had fallen lime. There was not much to choose here between _Esop, Dalkeith, and Cathal, of which trio the two first-named were dead level in clearing the water jump, clear of the Lewes horse. At the same time Horizon pitched upon landing, and fell, leaving Van der Berg fourth from Lady Pat, Manifesto, Ardcarn, and Wild Man from Borneo. To these succeeded Leybournc, Prince Albert. Father O'Flynn, and Molly Maguire, with Why Not and Fin-Ma-Coul 11. the whippera in, Caustic having tumbled a mile earlier. Going into the country Van der Berg carried his colours to the fore from Cathal and _Esop, and in their wake came Wild Man from Borneo, Dalkeith, Leybourne, and Manifesto. At the thorn fence before Valentine's, ZE-iop, who was beginning to tire, parted company with his pilot, and further on Ardcarn shared his fate, while Cock of the Heath had bolted. Ro sooner did Wild Man from Borneo head Cathal over Valentine's than their previous positions were reversed, and with Van der Berg coming on third, they .drew rapidly away from Manifesto, Lejbourne, Dalkeith, and Father O'Flynn. As they left the racecourse Cathal was quite three lengths in advance of Wild Man from Borneo, who in turn had twice that advantage over Van der Berg, while at straggling intervals came Manifesto, Lady Pat, Father O'Flynn, and Dalkeith. In the last half mile the jockeys of the two leaders were equally busy, and Cathal held an undiminished command to the last fence, when Wild Man from Borneo got to his heels. No sooner did tbey land than Cathal showed the greater amount of distress, and with Wild Man from Borneo steadily overhauling him, he drew in front at the distance, and won an exciting __ish by a length and a half. Van der Berg was a bad third, Manifesto a worse fourth, Why Not Fifth, Leybourne sixth, Father O'Flynn seventh. Lady Pat eighth, Dalkeith ninth, Fin-ma-Coul 11. eleventh, and Molly Maguire twelfth- Time, by Benson's chronograph, lOmin 32sec. Value of the stakes, £1075.
