AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES.

Sir, —A certain firm in Christchurch has ; lately, by advertising and every other avail-.' able way, beeu endeavouring to induce .wool i -growers to send their wool to Australia for , sale, asserting that prices were very much higher ia Melbourne and Sydney than here. , We shall therefore be j much obliged if you will publish the following faots. Wishing tp test the truth of this assertion as far aa was possible we wrote last mouth to a. friend ia Melbourne, requesting him to buy a few bales of halfbred wool and forward them to us. This he did. Tne price paid by him was 8d per lb. The wool duly arrived, seven bales in number. We offered it at our sales in Christ* church yesterday, and sold it for 8d per lb, or the t same price that it cost in Melbourne, notwithstanding the fact that wool' was' then' reported from London to be id to £d per lb down on the close of last sales. * . Aβ a farther test we offered at our December sale iv Christchurch fifteen bales crossbred wool. For this we were offered 6£d. per lb. . We withdrew lb, and sent it 10 Sydney for sale there. - We have just received the account sales.. Id sold for s£d per'lb, or Id per lb less than we were offered here. .. We will not comment on these facts. They speak for themselves.
