CATHEDRAL SQUARE EXHIBITIONS.
TO THE EDITOR OF TUB PRESS. Sib,—l think the time has arrived for the police authorities to interfere to stop the exhibitions in Cathedral square on Saturday nights. Last Saturday I was attracted by a. large crowd, .and found in the middle a man engaged in most unseemly wrangles with the crowd. He bad Drought with him two miserable'objects. One of these he posted in the can, and the other just in front of him, and kept on pointedly referring to them in the choicest Sydney slang. His repartee was certainly smart;, bnt grossly insulting. So much to that one man jumped into the cart and made the orator " apologise for saying that the man gained his living by the " three card trick." - Another man was told to drive a brewer's dray as his nose would-make an "admirable stop for the wheels." Another'was a ? •'bummer for a publican, who sneaked about the pub yard sucking half empty bottles." The whole was a most vulgar exhibition, and calculated to promote breaches of the peace. I after- < wards saw an excited crowd in Caahei street aud was told that the crowd was chafing the orator home. - For the sake of peace and, the good reputation of Chriatchurch 1 hope ! these meeting! will be prevented in future. —Yours, &c, CrnzEX.
