SPORTS AT NEW BRIGHTON.
On Saturday afternoon a good many people went to New Brighton to witness the aquatic sports which had been arranged for by a local Committee, and which took place on the Avon above and below the tramway bridge. The weather was very suitable for the sports, the entries for which were quite numerous enough. There was only one fault to be found with the Committee. In its desire to provide an afternoon's good enjoyment it had crowded too many events on the programme. ' The result was that at a, .late hour several of the competitions were not reached, and bad to be postponed to a future occasion. The officers of the day were :—Boat races— Judge*, Idessrs Jβ. C. Bishop, J. Dilloway, C. Burgess, aud G. H. McHaffie. Starters, Messrs Mansell and H. Hawker. Swimming Races—Judges, Messrs A. Francis, J. Watson, and F. Johnston; Starter, Mr W. B. Eyre; Handicappers, Messrs Eyre, Clark, and Plunkett; Secretary, Mr A. W. Owles, who was assisted by a strong Committee. Appended are the results: —
Double Sculls, three-quarters of a mile; prizes, £1 10s and 10s—First heat— A.. J. and H. G. Manning beat G. Finley and W. Evans. Second heat—F. and A. Thomas beat F. Henley and W. Keats.
