Mr Kidd, President) of the " New Australia" settlement, writing to a friend, expresses hie surprise that some of the prominent, organisers of the movement iti Australia have not yec arrived in the new colony. He says that a good deal of planting has been done, and if the crops are successful the colony will be placed in an independent position, fie expresses satis* faction with the place, but anticipates some difficulty. He expects that further shiploads of immigrants will follow from Mr Casey's mission to the colonies. OUSTED FROM HIS SEAT. The Electors Disqualification Committee have ousted Mr Greene from the Grenfell seat, and aeolared Mr Lougbnane elected. THE BANK FRAUDS. Low and Hadfield, two of those oonvicted of connection with the Bank frauds, will be released after eerving three years. THE MILITARY CONFERENCE. The proceedings of the Military Conference are kept private. Later. The Military Conference has decided upon a scheme of Federal defence, and is * now engaged in completing the details. The nature of the scheme has nob been divulged, but it is believed to be oa the liuea indioated in MajorGeneral Hutton's speech on January 25th. THE RETRENCHMENT. Mblbournb, October 25. The Government, in addition to abandoning a further percentage in the reduction of the salaries of public officials, has resolved to allow full increments instead of only one*half» as proposed by the late Premier. WRECK OF THE RODONDO. The Marine Board enquiring into the wreck of the Rodondo has suspended Captain Hill's certificate for twelve mouths, and ordered him to pay £20 towards the cost of the enquiry. The charge againsb the second mate the Court held had not been proved* CONTEMPT OF COURT. Mr Packer, publisher of the Age, has been in ft fine of £150 for contempt of court in publishing a speech made by MrSyme on the occasion of the presentation to the latter by sympathisers during the progress of the Speight-Syme libel action. ANOTHER GOLD DISCOVERY. Adelaide, October 25. Great excitement has been caused by the discovery of a gold reef 10ft wide on Kangaroo Island. Ib has been traced for miles, aad the assay gives lOoz to the ton. WOMEN'S FRANCHISE. Brisbane, October 25. Replying to a deputation of women who asked that the franchise should be conferred on them, the Premier said that personally he was totally opposed to the idea. The Government) would certainly not) do anything this session. THE COOLGARDIE GOLDFIELD. Perth, October 25. A,rich shoot of stone has been atruok ia the Cashmen'e mine at the Forty-five Mile, which was taken over on Monday by an English syndicate. Over lOOoz were contained in a few pounds of stone. The water difficulty is again cropping up. Horses are perishing on the road between Southern Cross and Coolgardie.
