WOMEN'S FRANCHISE LEAGUE
(PBBSa ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, October 25.
At the annual meeting of the Women's Franchise League, Mrs Hatton, the President, in her report, stated that there was a surplus for the year. She said that matters affecting the parity of home life and the safety of girla had been treated in Parliament by a want of earnestness only too characteristic of male politicians. While the League had set its face against the introduction of women into Parliament, yet if these highest inceptions of political life were kept in the background, while members increase their own and propose additions to the Ministerial salaries, the day will soon come when women would insist at the ballot-box on the direct personal representation of their sex. . It would appear inevitable that women moat insist on legislation that will equalise the differences between male aad female workers. Were they not justified in demanding that equal pay. should, in every case, accompany equal service? Mrs Hatton said it was now seen that the friends of temperance, with the help of the women can beat the liquor traffic wherever it is to be found.
Lady Stoat and Mrs Hatton were elected Presidents, and Mrs Dick and Mrs Earnshaw Vice-Preaideate.
The services of Mrs Hattoa and Mise NicoL the late Secretary, were recognised by the presentation to each oi a tea and coffee service.
