WORKING MEN'S CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Christchurch Working Men's Club aud M.S.A. was held last night, and well attended by members. Mr J. R.. Davidson, Vice-President, occupied the chair. . The retiring President, Mr T. Stapleton, submitted his report, in which he thanked the Committee and members for the assistance they had given-him during his five years' term of office. Respeoting finance, he stated that the Club was in a Bound condition, and gradually paying off itmortgage. Iv the pant year several improvements had been mode to the interior of the Club, the membership of which had greatly . increased. --The circulating and reference libraries were in a good condition, and had a number of volumes added co them in the past twelve months. Mr J. M. Thompson, Hon. Librarian, Reference Library, reported tbat there were 1300. volumes iv the library and he desired to return thanks to some seventy donors for assistance in the way of books and value. The balance sheet showed the- general receipts to. have been.. £1962.,19s lOd.and the expenditure 1813 la 2d.* lea "ing a credit balance of £149 18a Bd. The assets amounted to £4654 4s and the liabilities to £2033 15s, leaving a credit on this account of £2620_9a.. The reports and balance-sheet were adopted and ordered to be printed. . A very hearty vote of thanks was recorded to the retiring President, whom it was decided to present with an illuminated address as a slight recognition of his past services. The'ballot for the election of officers resulted in the following being returned:— President, Mr H. N. Martin; Vice-Presi-dent, Mr Ed. Smith; Treasurer, Mr W. Garrard; Auditors, Mesars C. Scholfield and C.J.-Marshall'; Committee, Messrs J. Glanville, G. Cookson, C. Sherwood, G. Wpodrough, J. M. Thompson and C. Brooks. The meeting shortly after adjourned.
