ASHBURTON RACING CLUB

The annual meeting of the Ashburfcon Racing Club was held on Saturday evening at the Club's rootus. The Committee, in presenting their annual report, regretted that the past season had uofc > been more successful from a financial point of riew than it had been. The year began •with a credit balance of .£655 1* 91; the total receipts had amounted to £1453 l'2i, and the expenditure, including £250 for improvements, to £1791 9d; the seasoa's operations thus reJuced the Club's capital by £337 14s 9d,and leaviug a balance in hand of £317 7s. It was regretted that the efforts made to inaugurate the South Island Country Racing Clubs* Association had not met with more cordial support from onher country Clubs. No time nor expense had been spared in takiug the necessary preliminary steps, and the first meatins, held on July ofch, was attended by twenty-seven delegates, but subsequent meetings were buc poorly attended. The revenue from the totalisalor showed a constant, falling off, the amount in IS9I beinsj £795 17s, while last year it only reached £142 17s 7d. The report was adopted. Officers were elected for the ensuing year as follows :—President, Mr E. G. Wright; Vice-President, Mr Hugo Friedlauder; Judge, Mr M. Stitt; Clerk of Scales, Mr K. Jnriediander; Treasurer. Mr S. H. Graves; Stewards, Messrs G. A. M. BucKiey, J. C. N. Girijjjr, B. (*. Crisp, E. Gates, C. W. Purnell, W. W. .Lyttekon, Dr. Leaby; Committee — Messrs E. Gates, H. Zander, E. A. Hanmer, J. Davidson, G. A. M. Buckley, E. J. Paul, S. H. Graves, E. G. Crisp, J. C. N. Grig*, D. Thomas. W. 13. Denshire, Dr. Leahy aad Dr. Tweed. Messrs W. B. Denshire, M. Stitt. E. G. Crisp, C. W. Puriiell, and Hugo Frierflander were unauimously elected life mambars for valuable services rendered in the past. By a private wire received in town yesterday, we learn thut the following weights have been declared in addition to others : —V.R.C.
