Fishmonger was the first to move, followed by Despised, but Scaltheen showed the way over the first fence, and he led Salute and Fishmonger over the brash obstacle. As the hill was ascended for the fir-it time Salute ran to the head of affairs, and when the field emerged from behind the trees he was gome lengths in advance of Scaltheen. Coining down the hill Fishmonger ran into second place, and when the stone wall leading on to the course came to be negotiated Fishmonger was almost level with Salute. Fishmonger was first over the ssod wall, whilst Salute, who was running second, made a bad jump and nearly unseated his rider, the hors9 losing his position, which was taken by Scaltheen. The last-named took command over the old water jump, his immediate attendants being Fishmonger and Potentate, with Bombadier fourth. Scaltheen led up the hill when it came to be ascended lor the second time, with Potentate second, Fishmonger third, and Bombadier fifteen lengths away fourth. Crazy Kate shot to the front at the pose and rail at the top of the hill where Bombadier and Fishmonger were raci' g together, The former made a capital jump, but Fishmonger struck and fell heavily, which lef o Bombadier the only oue close to Crazy Kate. Coming down the hill for hose the mare had an advantage of five lengths, while Potentate was three lengths behind Bombadier. The latter lessened the gap separating him from the leader by two lengths before the stone wall was reached, and iinme.diately after giving Crazy Kate the go by. Bombadier had a good lead at tbe home turn and holding his own in the run borne won a well contested and most exciting race by six length*, while Crazy Kate was tea lengths in front of Potentate, after an interval succeeded Fishmonger and then came Despised.
