A largely signed petition has been presented to tbe Government) against the execution of tbe men Montgomery and Williams, who were connected with tbe Bridge street burglary. Three deputations waited on the Premier, one of which was headed by Cardinal Moran, urging the reprieve. The Cabinet sat for three hours considering tbe matter, and ultimately resolved that tbe law sbould take its course.

BIRTHDAY OF SIR HENRY PARKES.

In connection with the murder of a woman, the prisoner hoped for a reprieve on the ground that her death was the outcome of a curious Japaueae practice. Both having decided to die together, the man first killed the. woman and intended to commit suicide, but was unsuccessful in the latter act. The execution took place to-day, death beiug instantaneous.
