OBITUARY.

VEST. ARCHDEACON MAUNSELL. AUCKLAND, April 19. One who has occupied a very prominent position in the hietory of New Zealand from its inception as a colony passed away peace* folly at his residence JVlanukau road, Parnell, this morning, iv the person of the Yen. Archdeacon Maunsell, at the ripe age, of eighty-four years. Intelligence of his. death will not come as a great surprise to the multitude of hie friends, who have been expecting the end at any rnomeat. The venerable deceased has been in a very low state for some time past, having been subject, to fainting fits and the other failing . concomitants with extreme old age. He has been under the medical supervision of Dr. Mackellar; and at 1.10 o'clock this afternoon passed quietly away, having retained the full possession of his • faculties until the last. Hβ was , out ia hie garden only three day* ago, but was very low and weak yeeterdayv and a slight rally this morning only proved of brief duration. The deceased leaves five sons and five daughters, all of whom are, well known and ate now settled in life. Three sons, Edward, Robert and Frederick, are farming, the firdt-named jat Master*ton and the last at Castlepoint, Hawke's Bay district. The only son who. followed in his father's footsteps and entered Holy Orders was George, who ma - formerly a member of the Church Mis*. sionary Society at Xauranga, Bay of, Islands, and is now in charge at Opotiki, in the Bay of Plenty district. The remaining son, Herbert, is in the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's branch at Auckland. The Rev. George Maunsell was present at his father's death. 01 the daughters, one < is the wife ot Mr George Kisaiing, of thU. ~ city ; another is married to the Rev. Bryce, formerly connected with the Melanesian Miasitia, but now Secretary of the Austr*-, lifta Mission Board. The wife of Mr Gas Crates ia another, and there are two at home.
