INQUESTS.
Aα inquest on the body of the boy YV. S. Strong, burnt to death in the fire yesterday morning, was held at the police station last eveniug. Mr Henry Hinge was chosen foreman of the jury. Howard Strong, father of the deceased, deposed that about midnight he heard a crackling noise from the vicinity of the kitchen. He thought at first it might be the rat trap snapping. His wife got up and found the house on tire. Ban to the police station and gave the alarm, his wife going upstairs to rouse the children and servant. Got back and with Constable Gough broke open the door, ran upstairs and handed out the children to the constable, then jumped out himself. Thought all the children and hie wife were then outside. Presently the eldest boy said he thought one of the children was missing. It was then too late to attempt a rescue as the flames had a firm hold. Lieutenant Smith gave evidence regarding the operations of the Brigade in endeavouring to quench the fire in the room where the boy was found. The Brigade concentrated their energies on the one room as soon aa it was said some one was inside. Constables Gough and Ramsay also gave evidence, and stated that had they known m time the boy's life could have been saved, but Mr Strong told them "all were out safe," and they believed him. The Coroner summed up and the jury returned a verdict of " accidentally burued to death." An inquest was held at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon on the body of the female intant of Ellen Hyde, 72 Tuam street, the death having occurred suddenly the previous day. The jury, after hearing the medical evidence, returned a verdict of " Death from natural causes."
